Week 4 (Reflection) 6 March 2013

          For the week fourth of the course for MPT1173 (Educational Resource Management System), we continue the learning of descriptive cataloging.



          In the ISBD areas, it includes the following information:
             1) Title and Statement of Responsibility.
             2) Edition.
             3) Material or type of publication specification.
             4) Publication, Distribution (etc.)
             5) Physical description.
             6) Series.
             7) Notes.
             8) Standard Numbers.



          ISBD Punctuation have the following information for its organization and retrieval.
      *  Title Proper (GMD) = Parallel title : other title info / First statement of responsibility ; others.
          -- Edition information. -- Material. -- Place of Publication : Publisher Name, Date. -- Material designation and extent ; Dimensions of item. -- (Title of Series / Statement  of responsibility). -- Notes. -- Standard numbers: terms of availability (qualifications).



          Bibliographic record involve the following information:
       * Introduction to cataloging and classification / Bohdan S. Wynar. -- 8th ed. / Arlene G. Taylor.
          -- Englewood, Colo. : Libraries Unlimited, 1992. -- (Library science text series).

          There is 5 choice of access points : (1) Title(s) (Always main title) ; (2) Main Entry?? ; (3) Added Entries ; (4) Series Titles ; (5) Identifying Numbers.

          After we completed the theory part in the lecture hall, we continue our learning in the library for hands on learning process. Our lecturer, En. Abdul Razak asked us to do some hands on learning by choosing some book and do the bibliographic record used the choice of access points being teached today that is "main entry". The information for the bibliographic record using the main entry is shown as below:

Works of personal authorship (21.1A) "Author or Main Entry"
          Title proper (2.1B) : Other title information (2.1E) / Statements of responsibility (2.1F). - Place of publication, distribution, etc. (2.4C1) : Name of publisher, distributor, etc. (2.4D1) , Date of publication, distribution, etc. (2.4P1).

          Number of volumes and / or pagination (2.5B2) : Illustrative matter (2.5C1); Dimensions  
          (2.5D1).

          Contents (2.7B18)
          International al Standard Book Number (ISBN) (2.8B)
