There are three main area in catalog record. The three main area in catalog record are classification, description and subject.
Why we need catalog? Catalog is needed to enable a person to find a document (the author, the title, the subject is known), to show what the library has (by a given author, on a given subjectband related subjects, and in a given kind or form of literature) as well as to assist in the choice of a document. Catalog is a list about the library materials that had been arrange according to some definite plan. The list is about materials in a collection, a library or a group of libraries. Cataloging use the agreed international rules and standards. It involves the bibliographic information preparation for catalog records. The bibilographic record give the description about the work. http://www.slideshare.net/joh5700/descriptive-cataloging-overview
